Attractions and Things to Do
Aruba isn't really a place people
come to see. Vacationers instead revel in the plethora of aquatic
activities (if you think the water looks great from your towel
on the beach, wait till you get underwater), explore the rough
landscape in all terrain vehicles, and when the day is done,
grab a prime vantage point at one of the island's bars and drink
in a breathtaking sunset, cocktail in hand before heading out
to one of the many salsa clubs and smoky bars that beckon.
If you can drag yourself away
from the Cuban music shows, salsa clubs, and Latin theme events
that are an integral part of Aruba's nightlife, you might want
to check out the Butterfly Farm. Close to 35 species of the winged
creatures flutter around while a guide explains some of their
most intriguing idiosyncrasies, including a 48 hour mating ritual.
Fort Zoutman built in 1796 is
the oldest standing symbol of the Dutch occupation of this island.
The nearby Museo Arobano displays a selection of artifacts from
the Dutch period.
If you've had your fill of Caribbean
culture, hire an all terrain vehicle and explore Aruba on wheels.
Charter a catamaran for the day and sail the clear waters, or
just swim in the shallow surf that's perfect for a dip. Adrenaline
junkies will find enough jet skiing, kayaking and para sailing
from here to sunset, while those who want to do nothing more
than dip their toes in the water can take an as-close-as-is-possible
look at the abundant marine life in a submarine or glass bottomed
boat.
