Welcome to Ft. Lauderdale Florida
When it's time to salsa, where
better to visit than Fort Lauderdale, with a tropical Caribbean
feel.
The city takes its name from
some abandoned forts built during the Seminole wars and was named
after William Lauderdale, who constructed the first fort.
The city lies on a network of
canals. For this reason, Fort Lauderdale is also known as the
Venice of America. It's a great place to take in a Latin theme
party,
Cuban theme party or Latin dance
show and to enjoy dancing to Latin music and Cuban music sounds.
The city has a tropical climate and even the winters are warm
and dry. Winter temperatures are around 76F while summers reach
a humid and scorching 99F.
It's great weather for salsa
dancers to take to the streets and listen to bands. Watch out
for the June to November hurricane season, which is also the
wettest part of the year in Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale thrives on tourism, though it has shed its 80s
image as a spring break destination. Instead many of the visitors
in search of sea, sun and salsa come from cruise ships.
Ten million visitors a year come
to this city which has become a haven for the yachting crowd
with dozens of marinas and boatyards. It is also home to Port
Everglades, the third busiest port in the country.
There's plenty for salsa enthusiasts to do in and around Fort
Lauderdale. This popular tropical Caribbean paradise has a large
Cuban population, so the nightlife is wonderful. There is also
plenty of entertainment during the day and attractions to see.
