Welcome to
Ponte
Vedra Beach Florida
Ponte Vedra beach is one of Florida's
beautiful beachside communities and salsa enthusiasts are sure
to enjoy it.
Like others in the region, it
may be the place where Juan Ponce de Leon made landfall in the
early 16th century, though this is not certain.
Once known as Mineral City, because
of the large deposits of ilmenite, titanium and zircon that existed,
the area is thought to take its name from the city of Pontevedra
in Galicia, Spain.
Ponte Vedra Beach is a popular
up market tourist resort, with a lot to offer visitors. Not least
of these is the wonderful Florida climate, which allows residents
to enjoy beachside living all year round.
Average temperatures in the Jacksonville
area are a low of 42 F in winter and a high of 72F in July and
August. This really is a tropical paradise which visitors to
Florida are sure to enjoy.
The city's mineral extraction
history is responsible for its other claim to fame: golf. During
the First World War, ilmenite was a strategic mineral as it was
a key component of poison gas. The company that extracted it
created golf courses for their leisure time, setting the scene
for the current golf industry.
